GETTING “OUT- DOORSY”

One of the things that I will miss the most about Berlin is the freshness of the air. The way I can open the windows instead of AC is so invigorating. The stunning parks also will be remembered as a favorite haunt. Every day I jog over to Volkspark Freidrishair, and explore the vast space. The park is always filled with people playing sports, hiking and having picnics. On one of my runs I came across this giant spiraling hill to get an intense workout. My calves were definitely sore the first time I went all the way up but the view was worth it! Another thing that I enjoy about this park is the freeness that is apparent.. people laying out on the grass by the ponds and enjoying the benefits of nature and the relaxed atmosphere is inspiring. The other day, my roommate and I layed down in the center and looked around at all of the people. I saw a little girl chasing a butterfly, a man playing fetch with his dog and a couple riding bikes together; experiencing this, made me feel like I was not only adapting to the culture but left slightly in awe of how life is better slowed down and able to "smell the roses".
Every Sunday, there are several flea markets that offer an array of trinkets and unique gifts. Stands were filled with clothes, jewelry and even things like an old typewriter or a vintage camera. This is the place to be, especially if you are trying to buy something that is not like the stereotypical souvenir and just rummaging through this eclectic array. I bought a bierstein, jewelry and several clothes items with styles that I have never seen in America. I really enjoyed the ambiance as people were bustling through the streets, drinking ginger tea and bargaining for the best price. It was a Sunday Funday indeed.
